Aerial Root Nub | The start of an aerial root. |

Apical (or terminal) Growth | This is the growth found at the very top of your plant and will emerge in a cataphyll attached to your most recent petiole. |

Axil | The angle formed by where the petiole meets the stem. |
Axillary (or lateral) Bud | A raised bump on the stem by each node - often hidden by a petiole. Axillary buds are found on lower nodes (rather than the top - your apical growth) and on many houseplants will only become activated if the plant is chopped above or below the node it is present on. |
Cataphyll | A modified leaf which lacks a blade and in appearance corresponds to a petiolesheath; may be used to describe other leaf types whose technical names are defined by positionrather than form, e.g., prophylls are usually of cataphyll shape in Araceae, compare, prophyll. |
